Apple is making strides in their over-zealous care for their customers with the release of OS 27, strides which infringe on privacy and liberty but not in the usual sense.
Ferreting around for days for the setting which turns off the word usage correction feature, my crankiness has gotten the better of me. Spell checking and grammar use are no longer sufficient. These two functions are very good and have been with us for decades. The word usage is more a stylistic function and I wouldn’t mind if the databanks Apple has linked to were not exclusively American and devoid of style.
One corrective suggestion I was prompted to use was grammatically incorrect in the sentence and changed the meaning from cars to clothes. ‘Gear change’ is a thing. This is just one instance, of course. Nearly every post involves several seconds of the computer pausing while Apple databanks insist on interrupting the typing process to provide irrelevant and unsolicited opinions.
The second pernicious parenting point I’ll make is about sharing nudes. ‘Are you sure you want to share this content? If you need help, you can contact help.’ (Just here: ‘The world ‘help’ should be used here instead of ‘help” just popped up…)
Apple: mind your own business. My life is not yours to vet or interfere with. Your managing people’s personal lives opens your company to liability if you get it wrong, and I’m sure you will, sooner or later, because to err is human. Erring is definitely technological, too!
Not sure what is happening on the other two platforms regarding parenting of the general public by condescending multinational companies and I really do not care to know.
Having the choice to not turn on these politically correct, moral grand-standing and vapid censorship systems is the better choice.
Companies staying out of people’s personal lives is the best option.
