Love,

a precious thing.
May begin with a fleeting glance
usually does…

a confounded thing.
Changing the course of lives
and nations.

it can’t be ignored.
Can it be restored,
a broken heart?

it can’t be predicted.
Not when it comes and
when it goes.

once it’s gone,
does it come back?
Can it be recovered?

it’s a precious thing.
A thing to be treasured,
protected from ourselves.

it’s the connection,
the only one which provides meaning.
the one emotion with a disability?

a flawed experience.
Love needs mutual respect to flourish,
and trust to thrive.

without those two,
without the sun and rain,
it withers and dies.

once gone,
meaning is lost, and motivation, too.
We pitch into a void.

it needs communication,
vital and true,
and the right attitude:

it demands comfort in pain.
Courage when most vulnerable.
Not sure? Check what we gain!

it comes and it goes.
Have you been in love?
How’ve you made your love grow?
