The giant clam
at the bottom of the ocean
not looking outside
sunlight filtered through depths of water
The giant clam
ignoring the universe
packed snuggly inside
safe and sound
But! Something wriggles along
flowing with colours
sinewy and swift
flowing with the currents and sunlight
The giant clam,
how should he act?
whatever he thinks
no action can be taken
Nothing apart from what he has always done
clamming up
blowing out debris
sensing vague movement
The cuttlefish hovers
dashes here and there
wondering what could possibly be
hidden inside
Dancing and prying
vibrating with colours and textures
he tickles at the edges of the giant clam
devoured by curiosity
The giant clam
clamps shut on the tentacles
the cuttlefish
slips out of the forceful grasp
And flits away
looking for something more interesting
something more interactive
a little something more responsive
The giant clam
glued to the spot
filters some more food
and feels safe…
Once again.
